On Tuesday, 7 May 2024, we held our spring debate evening at the Faculty of Economics, the topic of which was “coaching.”

In the introductory part, the lecturer from the University of New York in Prague, Dr. Juwana Jenkins, explained the benefits of coaching and mentoring, and then defined both concepts while distinguishing coaching from directing, guiding, and delegating.

In the continuation, Prof. Rozman (UL EF) presented key concepts such as management, administration, leadership, leadership styles, etc., thereby explaining the context of coaching and the definitions proposed by various authors. A significant part of his presentation was dedicated to possible Slovenian translations of the term “coaching,” such as training or encouragement-based development.

As the final speaker, Dr. Sabina Đuvelek (Level up), an organizational psychologist and coaching expert, presented approaches to individual and team coaching, with an emphasis on understanding the importance of emotions and conflict resolution, as well as introducing coaching systems into companies. During her presentation, Prof. Mihelčič suggested the term “personality development” as a possible translation of coaching.

The topic of this debate evening was interesting, important, and highly relevant, and all speakers inspired us to reflect on it in thought-provoking ways. Thank you all!
