INVITATION TO THE DEBATE EVENING
OF THE SLOVENIAN ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION

The Executive Board of the Slovenian Academy of Management Association invites you to a debate evening, which will take place on Wednesday, 12 May 2021 at 17:00 in the Webex online environment, titled:

COMMUNICATION IN CRISIS – WHAT, WHY, HOW, AND WHEN?

The circumstances of the crisis we found ourselves in during the COVID-19 epidemic can be described by the acronym VUCA: Volatility (instability, fluctuations), Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity. As citizens and employees, we found ourselves in situations we did not expect and in which we had to “find our way anew” :). From representatives of the state and employers, we expected clear, effective, and honest communication, as we needed physical, psychological, and financial security.

The circumstances of the past year have posed completely new challenges to officials and managers—alongside those they have faced in the past. What were the biggest challenges? What did managers need to communicate to stakeholders in companies and public sector organizations? How did they communicate with stakeholders? Did they explain why changes were necessary, how they would be implemented, and what benefits they would bring? Did they also consider when to deliver messages so that they would achieve their intended effect? What were the key mistakes in crisis communication and what could be the consequences of unsuccessful and ineffective communication? What have we learned about communication with key stakeholders during the health crisis of the past year, and will we use these experiences in future crises—economic and social ones?

In exploring the challenges and opportunities of successful and effective crisis communication, a range of questions arises. We will seek answers with the help of interesting introductory speakers. Joining us will be:
